Battery-free e-field measurements up to 18 GHz

DARE!! Development has extended the RadiSense product line with a new field probe covering the frequency range up to 18 GHz. The probe is powered by a laser, which avoids the time-consuming charging of batteries.

The youngest member of the RadiSense-family covers the frequency range from 10 MHz to 18 GHz. With a measurement volume of 1 cm³ the probe is by far the smallest in the world. To perform accurate field strength measurements, the probe must be small in relation to the wavelength of the measured signal. If probe dimensions are oversized, it will cause resonances at higher frequencies, contributing significantly to the total measurement uncertainty.

Traditional field probes are battery-powered, as galvanic wires would influence the measured field. However, batteries are quickly drained and often empty when they are most needed. A battery free probe, for example, is particularly useful for continuous measurements during overnight testing. The first laser-powered probe was introduced by DARE!! in the year 1999 and has been enhanced continuously ever since.

The RadiSense 18 GHz is available as a plug-in card for use with the 2-channel RadiCentre and can be used as a stand-alone device or in combination with another instrument such as the RF-Power meter RadiPower. Alternatively the probe can be used with the 8-channel RadiCentre and can be combined with up to 7 further modules giving a multifunctional EMC Measurement System.
