3rd November 2008 - Intelligent Power supplies with load functionality help to reduce operating costs

The programmable MX Series power supplies from California Instruments can be used as a power source up to 270 kVA and as a load. When operated as a load the refluent energy is regenerated in to the power grid with high efficiency. This helps to reduce operating cost of test facilities significantly. The comprehensive software helps to carry out complex test procedures and minimizes the internal efforts.
With the bi-directional load capability, the energy is fed back into the power grid with high efficiency and larger thermal power losses can be avoided. Passive or electronic loads become dispensable. Due to this the energy consumption and the costs for air conditioning of the test facility can be reduced significantly.
High built-in intelligence
The software that is delivered with the power supplies covers various standard test procedures. The internal test library includes for example the test producers for Harmonics, Flickers, Drops, Interrupts, Interharmonics, Avionic test procedures and many more. These complex tests can be performed without larger efforts for external programming.
Typical applications of the MX are e.g. in the field of renewable energies, especially photovoltaics, avionics and many other industrial applications.
The MX Series comprises various models with an output power from 15 kVA to 270 kVA. The model MX45 (45 kVA) will be presented at the electronica 2008 at the emv-booth, Hall A1, A1.660.
